Photos from the farmers' markets
Last Saturday, Anna, David, & I went to some of the different markets around town. It was so much fun!

I want one of these..one booth was selling these vintage subway signs..I have always wanted one and now I can get one. With RVA places on it, which makes it even better! <3

What I'm Loving..
Today I'm loving my grandparents, and Daniel's grandparents.
Last night I was taking random photos around home and took some photos of the frame shelf I have. We used these photos on our memory mantle at our wedding. Only Daniel's grandmothers were at our wedding, so it was nice to have the photos there to remind us of those who could not be with us.

DIY Bar Shelf
We wanted a pub table or a bar type of table to go on this one wall in the nook area before you get to the kitchen (since we don't have a dining room anymore :( ). I looked every single place I could possibly think of and find in the greater Richmond area, and nothing I found satisfied me. I even checked craigslist, stopped by a few yard/garage sales, and nothing.
Then, after a long day of hunting by myself, Daniel and I decided to go to Home Depot together. For some reason I thought they would have what I was looking for. I naturally walked back to where their shelf supplies are, and we instantly decided to make our own bar shelf.
All we did was purchase the shelf piece (in espresso wood), and then 2 brackets to support it to the wall. We also purchased the bar stools from Target (which I love because they match our coffee table perfectly). I can proudly say I assembled the stools myself, while Daniel hung up the shelf.
Now we have more seating room, and a table to actually eat at!
It might seem a little small for some, but it's plenty big enough for us & what we need it for. It is just the two of us, so we're good.
On the wall above it, I hung my family photo frame. I am missing a couple of people in the frame but I will add them as time goes on.
Also, I found this cute little desk at the thrift for a couple of bucks. I decided to paint it the same color as my pyrex cabinet..I am still not done painting it (as you can see), but I think it's simply adorable. I have a couple of old wooden sewing drawers I may stick in the drawer area, and it can hold our mail and stuff like that. Cute!
And, I got these cute Fire King gingham milkglass mugs..a quarter a piece. I may go with this theme for our kitchen..they match my apron perfectly!

Crock Pot meal
Yesterday I made a pot roast in the crock pot..the kind Lora http://adayinthelifeoflivi.blogspot.com/ recommended. It came out SO good..
I put it in the crock pot after I got back from the farmers' markets. I mixed up the three packets and coated the roast with the mixture, and then added in the 1 cup of water like the recipe instructs. I chopped up a small onion and threw that on top, and I also had some carrots and potatoes I bought from whole foods last time I was there so I washed, skinned, and chopped those up and threw them in on top of the roast too. (Didn't want them going to waste). I didn't add any more water, I just left it alone. I took a nap for a little while but I could already smell everything, it smelled sooooo good..
After about 6 hours, I checked on it, and it seemed like the vegetables were all cooked already. I guess the steam from the water really helped them cook-they all looked awesome. I added some salt and pepper and mixed them up and put the lid back on top.
After 8 hours, I knew everything was done..but I waited for Daniel to get home from work so I kept the crock pot on warm..when he came home he could smell everything and thought it was awesome..he said he didn't know how I could wait because he couldn't.
There are no photos, but I will definitely take some next time. It was the best pot roast we have ever had and I think this will be the way I make it from now on. It was so easy too, anyone who doesn't feel like a great cook or who is scared of cooking could definitely do this.

Farmers' Markets
Local markets are a lot of fun to go to, especially during summer and fall. I am very picky about produce, and I like to know what I'm getting when I buy it. Going to local markets are great because you get to meet the people who might have grown/harvested the produce, and you know what's in it and if they used chemicals or anything else like that. It's also good for the local economy..it's just really good in general to support local farmers and others selling things they made/produced. One day I hope to be able to set up at some markets and sell stuff of my own, like baked goods, candy, maybe some craft items, etc. Not totally sure yet but it's something fun I'd like to do one day.

What I'm Loving..
What I'm Loving..
24. We started watching it again since the only thing we have to watch on tv are dvd's. So far we have watched seasons 1 & 2, and the first couple episodes of season 3. It's a great show, but I think I just really like Kiefer Sutherland. I mean, who doesn't? I think that's a pretty good reason to like it.. Watching the seasons, you can really see how much Kiefer grows into his character-he is so much better in later seasons than earlier ones. That could all just be part of the character too though, the fact that the character endured so much in his life to make him the way that he is is probably one reason why he seems so much "better" or more appealing, to me anyway. You just have to watch to see what I mean.
There's also supposed to be a 24 movie sometime next year, so watching all of the seasons again to understand everything that happened will definitely help. I'm sure you won't need to do that to understand the movie but they will most likely bring back older characters people have forgotten about, or bring up other things that happened in past seasons...so yeah. I'm loving 24 all over again.
Dinner parties. I wish we had more of them. It is going to be interesting trying to set anything up like this in our new place, since there's no dining room. I think we can manage something though..somehow. I know when we do finally have a house we're going to host tons of awesome dinner parties.

Origami. This is a photo of 519 origami cranes. When Daniel proposed to me in 2006, he laid out 519 origami cranes in a trail (he was at the end of it with the ring). I held onto all of those cranes and recently strung all of them up. I plan on hanging them somehow in our bedroom, but I am still working those details out.
While I was in origami mode, I also decided to purge some pieces. We have accumulated tons of cranes and other origami pieces, so we sorted everything and I counted all of the other cranes we had..
This box contained 1,286 origami cranes! They were of various sizes, papers, textures, materials, etc.. So I posted about them on facebook and said I was giving them away for free. One of Daniel's classmates (from VCU back in the day)contacted me, her name is Sheena. Sheena claimed the cranes! I won't share what she is going to use them for; that's something I hope she will share later when the time is right. She is such a doll and I am so happy that I was able to give them away to someone who really wanted/appreciated them. Of course, there are plenty of cranes I thought looked bad in that box, but she can pick through them and use the ones she really wants-I know she is really grateful for them. So it's a win win situation for everyone!
A husband who can bake.
The other week I came home and Daniel was mixing up a batch of cookie dough from scratch. This photo is the scene that I saw when I walked in the house. He was using a wooden spoon (so it wouldn't scratch) on my 404 primary yellow pyrex bowl. How sweet! He made a bunch of chocolate chip cookies and took most of them to work, which is how I like it. I don't want a ton of cookies sitting around. In fact, that's usually how I roll. When I bake, I share it with people I know. I might help myself to a little tiny amount, but the thrills and pleasures I get from baking are the reactions and happiness of other people when they try some of whatever I made.
